Holy Jumping George! There is so much to say about birds! There is „the big stuff“ of course, that, in a lifespan, they can travel the world many times over, that they can navigate as precisely as a modern aircraft, can achieve incredible speeds, are super efficient, super light, and that they basically run on sugar and oxygen instead of kerosene, but the real interesting stuff is actually hidden in the fine print. All those little details, one of which being that strange birds actually exist! Tristan Gooley writes about this in his book „The Natural Navigator“ where seafarers in the past — and on rare occasions still today — look for birds to show them the direction towards land (you better know the exact species and their way of living & habitat of course). But if you happen to pick a strange bird — you are doomed! There are some birds out there that just do their own thing ..
